- Update your estate planning attorney with your new address! This is important for them to have on file.

- Have an estate plan audit. This big life change, like many others, means it’s time to take a look at your current plan.
Moving states? Welcome to your new home! Here are some things to be aware of:
- Each state has different laws. Which means the way your plan was set up in Tennessee or California will be different than what Michigan or Florida requires!
- Look at who is involved in your estate plan. If you’ve moved states, is the person who is listed as your power of attorney still a reasonable option?
- Same goes for the guardian of your minor children. If you’ve moved states, you’ll want to make sure your children are taken care of where they’re most comfortable. Updating your plan with the right guardians for your children prevents them from being uprooted in a time of grief.
